Overview

The Sacramento, CA office of Lewis Brisbois is actively seeking a talented and highly motivated Complex Litigation Paralegal to join our team.  This position will support all litigation attorneys in the (location) office.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include those listed below. Other related duties may be assigned. Regular predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

 

OBJECTIVES: Performs a broad range of case related duties under the supervision of an attorney. Tasks include assisting attorneys with case planning, development and managing case deadlines to ensure that that all research, discovery, and other projects are completed in a timely manner, legal research from library sources and/or using LexisNexis or the computer assisted research program selected by the Firm, fact gathering and retrieving information, drafting and analyzing legal documents, collecting, compiling and utilizing technical information to make independent decisions and recommendations to supervising attorney. Works with attorneys on preparing and filing court documents, organizing exhibits and pleadings, and creating indices and chronologies. Conduct background research on companies, individuals, and parties including filings with the government, social media, and the Internet. May provide computer assisted litigation, e-discovery, e-document management, and trial support including preparing exhibits, coordinating trial setup and logistics, assisting attorneys in the courtroom, and preparing witness, etc. Assist with managing relationships with vendors and experts, including ensuring all invoices are processed and paid in accordance with client guidelines.

Qualifications

  • This position has a minimum billable hour requirement of 1,600 hours per year.

EDUCATION: Certificate of completion from a Paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association; B.A. degree a plus.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 to 7 years current experience as a complex litigation paralegal.

SKILLS:

  • Advanced skills using:
    • Adobe Pro or other PDF software.
    • Office 365 (Microsoft Excel, Word).
    • Relativity (Advanced Analytics, Clustering, Document Review, Productions, Searches). 
  • Intermediate skills using:
    • Office 365 (Microsoft Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, & SharePoint).
    • CaseMap, TextMap, TimeMap.
    • LexisNexis Advance or Westlaw Case Research.
    • CS Disco, Concordance, logikull, and nebula.
    • Document management systems such as iManage or NetDocuments.
    • Docketing software like eDockets of similar experience.
    • All Federal Court filing systems (CM/ECF, PACER) and CCES.
    • Accurint by LexisNexis or similar experience.
  • Ability to prepare client-facing deliverables.
  • Ability to assist clients with filing records with the Secretary of State.
  • Ability to conduct custodial interviews and assist with document collection following ESI Protocols.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Advanced writing, grammar, and communication skills.
  • Creative thinking for efficiency and streamlining processes.
  • Self-motivated and understands the importance of deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in other states, appellate court, and arbitration a plus.
